Lake Champlain Bridge Demolished

Built in 1929, the steal bridge became unsafe and was closed in 2009. Today the bridge was demolished to make way for a new span secluded to be compleated in 2011.

Earthquake strikes on tsunami anniversary

A strong 6.0 earthquake has struck at sea in eastern Indonesia on the fifth anniversary of another quake that spawned the Asian tsunami that left 250,000 people dead.

Snow, Rain help Venice reach 2009 high-water mark

This week, Venice was hit with snow followed by heavy rain to create the high-water mark for 2009. Flooding will continue to plague Venetians in 2010.

Airliner slams into runway then brakes apart as it careens towards Caribbean Sea

American Airlines flight 331 crashed after a hard landing at the Norman Manley International Airport in Jamaica. All passengers and crew survived. The eight year old Boeing 737-800 lay in 3 pieces on the beach just 15 feet from the Caribbean Sea in Kingston, Jamaica.

Fire erupts at Guinness St. James Gate complex in Dublin

A Guinness storage building was severely damaged by a fire today. Two members of the Dublin fire brigade were injured battling the 3 hour blaze. The building was located near Victoria Quay on the 64 acre site.

D.C. Police bring a gun to a snowball fight

During the record snowfall to hit Washington D.C. on Saturday, a snowball fight developed at the corner of 14th and U Street. The snowball fight turned ulgy when a plain clothed officer brandished a weapon after his vehicle was pelted with multiple snowballs. The snowball fight was organized via online social networking earlier in the day.

Passengers stranded in Channel Tunnel

Five Eurostar trains broke down in the Channel Tunnel stranding thousands of passengers.

A representative for Eurostar said the five trains, which were coming from Brussels and Paris, failed because of the "very, very cold temperatures" outside and the "warm, humid" conditions inside the tunnel.

2,000 travelers were reported trapped in five trains for 10 hours overnight in a "nightmare" ordeal. After several hours without rescue some passengers were reported to have opened emergency hatches to evacuate themselves.

Ohio amusment company finds New York buyer

Private equity firm Apollo Management has agreed to buy Ohio theme-park company Cedar Fair for $635 million. The Sandusky, Ohio-based company owns and operates 11 amusement parks, five outdoor water parks, and one indoor water park. The deal is pending shareholder approvals.

Wild Pig Terrorizes California Neighborhood

A wild boar reportedly chased people and damaged a wrought-iron fence this morning in Loma Linda, California. The Wild Boar was captured and will not likely terrorize again.

Dreamliner lifts Boeing's future dreams today.

On December 15th The 787 completed it's maiden VFR flight. The 787 is Boeing’s first new jet since 1995. 15 years of aviation development brings several new technological advancements. Instead of using the more common aluminium, a composite material has been used. The carbon-fiber reinforced plastic used in the body is so much lighter than aluminium that there is around a 20% reduction in fuel used. Boeing's facility in Everett, Washington is amazingly gigantic. Explore the tarmac for the the 747 "Dreamlifter".

Local vulcanologist raised the alert level on the cone-shaped, 8,070-foot Mayon volcano to two steps below eruption after ash explosions and dark orange lava fragments glowing in the dark trickled down the mountain slope.

Dog survives 98 days on deserted island

Buddy, a 35 pound Beagal was lost August 31st near Manasquan, New Jersey. Buddy survived on the deserted Gull Island for 98 days. Buddy, now 19 pounds was successfully trapped and returned to his familey this past week.
